Description
PWDKO Series Universal Speed Worm Gearbox
The PWDKO is the most fully equipped single-stage worm reducer in the WP range, packing a universal multi-angle first-stage input, an IEC motor flange, a keyed hollow output shaft, and a vertical-upward output axis into one compact casting. This combination solves the most demanding single-stage layout problems: the motor can enter from any of six standard angles, the hollow bore connects directly to the driven machine shaft without a coupling, and the vertical output aligns naturally with gate stems, screw jacks, and agitator shafts. Twelve frame sizes from WP40 to WP250, ratios from 5:1 to 60:1, and output torques up to 3,025 N·m make the PWDKO a versatile industrial gearbox for applications ranging from water-treatment gate actuators to agricultural feeder drives.

Where Full Flexibility Matters
Water and Wastewater Gate Drives
Municipal sluice gates, weir penstocks, and canal headgates often have motor platforms at angles dictated by the civil structure rather than the gearbox manual. The PWDKO’s universal input accepts the motor from whichever direction the platform allows, the hollow bore slides over the gate stem, and the vertical output aligns with the lifting axis. At 30:1 or above, the self-locking worm gearbox property holds the gate at any position without a separate lock. Equipment integrators for AVK, Mueller, and Rodney Hunt gate systems regularly specify the PWDKO in the WP100–WP175 range.
Agricultural Screw Feeders
Grain augers, fertiliser dosing screws, and seed drills in Australian broad-acre farming use the PWDKO to mount directly on the auger shaft with the motor angled to suit the hopper or bin structure. The hollow bore eliminates the coupling and bearing block at the drive end, and the vertical output matches the common top-entry auger configuration. Frame sizes WP60–WP120 handle the low-to-medium torque loads these applications demand.
Specifications
All data applies at 1,500 r/min input under continuous duty. The PWDKO shares the same WP-platform gear pairs, bearings, and alloys as the full single-stage speed reducer gearbox range. Universal-input orientation and hollow-bore diameter are specified when ordering. contact us for dimensional drawings.

Universal input angles, hollow bore, and vertical output detail
Engineering and Construction
The PWDKO housing is a one-piece grey cast-iron universal casting with motor-flange faces machined on multiple planes, supporting input from six orientations. The output bore exits vertically upward, machined to H7 tolerance with a parallel keyway for direct shaft-mounting. A torque-arm bracket reacts the housing torque to the machine frame. The worm shaft is case-hardened 20CrMnTi alloy steel; the worm wheel is centrifugally cast ZCuSn10Pb1 tin-bronze. Tapered roller bearings and double-lipped NBR seals are standard on all penetrations. The foot pads accommodate both horizontal and vertical base mounting.
Components and Spare Parts
Every wear component inside this reducer is available as an individual spare part, allowing targeted replacement rather than full-unit swap. Our Condell Park, NSW warehouse stocks parts for the complete range and ships across Australia and New Zealand. The PWDKO shares its entire internal parts inventory with the WPW universal and standard WP single-stage ranges. Worm pairs, bearings, and seals are all cross-compatible per frame size.
Worm Shaft
Case-hardened 20CrMnTi alloy steel, thread-ground to Ra 0.8 μm finish
Worm Wheel
Centrifugally cast ZCuSn10Pb1 tin-bronze, hobbed full-depth involute profile
Bearings
Tapered roller bearings handling combined radial and axial loads on both shafts
Seal & Gasket Kit
Double-lipped NBR oil seals, housing gaskets, breather plugs, and O-rings
Worm shaft, bronze wheel, bearings, and seal kits — all orderable separately
Lubrication and Maintenance
Use ISO VG 220–320 EP gear oil for temperatures up to 40 °C. With the output shaft pointing upward, verify the oil level fully covers the worm-wheel teeth. Shell Omala S2 G 220 and Mobil DTE Oil BB are recommended. First oil change at 100 hours, then every 2,500 hours or annually. Inspect the torque-arm fasteners and all shaft seals at each service interval.
Customer Reviews
The PWDKO let us run the motor at a 30-degree angle to clear a structural column. No other single-stage gearbox gave us that flexibility. The hollow bore and vertical output were exactly what the application needed.
Ryan Cooper
Retrofit Engineer, Paper Mill
Installed PWDKO units on four sluice-gate drives. Universal input, hollow bore, vertical output, motor flange — one model covered every requirement. Commissioning was fast and trouble-free.
Linda Zhao
Project Engineer, Municipal Water
Good build quality and the universal input is genuinely useful in tight spaces around grain-handling equipment. Spares availability from Ever-Power Sydney is reliable.
