The WA-WS Series combines A-type (input below) and S-type (input above) orientations on a universal cast-iron housing with bare input shaft. 13 sizes (40-250 mm), ratios 5:1-60:1, torque up to 3,025 N·m. Reorientable on site between WA and WS without new parts. Self-locking above 30:1. Replaces Bonfiglioli VF-A/S universal and Motovario H-WA/WS worm reducers with matching shaft, bearing, and foot-mount geometry.

WA-WS Series Universal Worm Gear Reducer

The WA-WS Series pairs the universal multi-angle WP housing with two of the most popular input orientations: WA (input from below, A-type) and WS (input from above, S-type). Both variants use a bare input shaft for belt, chain, or coupling drive, and both share a single housing casting that can be reoriented on site if the motor position changes in the future. Thirteen frame sizes from WP40 to WP250, ratios of 5:1 to 60:1, and output torques up to 3,025 N·m match the performance of the fixed-orientation DA and DS models while adding the flexibility of a universal industrial gearbox platform.

Applications

Conveyor and Material-Handling Drives (WA)

Floor-level belt conveyors in warehouses, grain terminals, and recycling plants typically position the motor below the reducer. The WA orientation places the input shaft pointing downward, accepting a V-belt from a motor on the floor or a low-level bracket. This is the most common configuration for horizontal conveyor head-shaft drives, and the universal housing means the same unit can be rotated to S-type for future overhead-motor layouts without purchasing a new gearbox.

Tank-Top Agitators and Mixers (WS)

Vertical-shaft agitators in chemical reactors, blending tanks, and CIP vessels position the motor above the reducer on a bridge or platform. The WS orientation places the input shaft pointing upward, accepting a belt or coupling from the motor above. The self-locking worm gearbox property at 25:1 and above holds the impeller stationary during batch transfers.

Construction

The WA-WS housing is the same one-piece grey cast-iron universal casting used for the W Series, with motor-mounting faces on six planes. The output is a solid dual-end shaft with foot pads on two perpendicular planes. All internal components are interchangeable with the DA, DS, KA, W, and every other single-stage WP model of the same frame size.

Every wear component inside this reducer is available as an individual spare part from our Condell Park, NSW warehouse, enabling targeted replacement rather than full-unit swap. Full parts commonality with the entire WP single-stage family. One inventory covers WA, WS, DA, DS, KA, W, and more.

Lubrication

ISO VG 220–320 EP gear oil. WA (input below) uses the standard horizontal fill mark. WS (input above) may require a slightly higher fill to keep the upper bearing lubricated. First change at 100 hours, then 2,500 hours or annually.

1. What is the difference between WA and WS? +
Both use the same universal housing and gear pair. WA (A-type): motor input from below. WS (S-type): motor input from above. Switching between the two is simply a matter of rotating the input pulley or coupling to the appropriate face.
2. Does the WA-WS include a motor flange? +
No. Both use a bare input shaft for belt, chain, or coupling drive. For a direct motor flange, see the WDA-WDS Series.
3. Are WA and WS parts interchangeable? +
Yes, 100 %. They share the same housing casting, worm pair, bearings, and seals. Only the installed input angle differs.
4. How does the WA-WS differ from the DA-DS? +
The DA and DS use fixed-orientation housings with a motor flange. The WA and WS use a universal housing with a bare input shaft. The WA-WS can be reoriented on site; the DA-DS cannot.
5. What output shaft options are available? +
