WDA-WDS Series Universal Motor-Flange Worm Gear Reducer

The WDA-WDS Series is the motor-flange-equipped counterpart of the WA-WS range: a universal-housing worm gear reducer with a B5/B14 IEC motor flange pre-machined on the most common input faces. WDA positions the motor below (A-type) and WDS positions it above (S-type), but the universal casting lets fitters switch between orientations on site by simply unbolting and repositioning the motor. This reorientation capability, combined with the bolt-on motor convenience and zero-coupling drivetrain, makes the WDA-WDS the most flexible single-stage drive package in the WP range. Thirteen frame sizes (WP40–WP250), ratios 5:1 to 60:1, output torques up to 3,025 N·m.

Versatile Applications

Floor-Level Conveyor Drives (WDA)

Belt and chain conveyors in distribution centres, mines, and food plants typically position the motor below the reducer on the floor or a low bracket. The WDA mounts with the motor flange pointing downward, and the motor bolts on directly — no coupling, no belt, no alignment ritual. Frame sizes WP80–WP175 cover the speed and torque range most conveyor head-shaft drives operate in. Equipment integrators for Interroll and Hytrol platforms use the WDA as their default right angle worm gearbox.

Top-Entry Machine Drives (WDS)

Case packers, palletisers, and shrink-tunnel drives in packaging lines often position the motor above the gearbox to keep the floor area clear for product flow. The WDS orientation places the motor flange above the worm centreline, and the output shaft drives horizontally into the machine mechanism. At 20:1 to 30:1, the self-locking worm gearbox property holds the mechanism during product changeovers.

Engineering Details

The WDA-WDS uses the same universal grey cast-iron housing as the W and WD models, with B5/B14 IEC motor flanges machined on six planes. The input bore is h6-tolerance with a parallel keyway. The output is a solid dual-end shaft with foot pads on two perpendicular faces. All internals — 20CrMnTi worm shaft, ZCuSn10Pb1 bronze wheel, tapered roller bearings, double-lipped NBR seals — are identical to every other single-stage WP variant of the same frame. An optional AS-type support bracket and TV-type motor bracket are available for installations with heavy motors or high-vibration environments.

Oil and Maintenance

ISO VG 220–320 EP gear oil. When switching from WDA to WDS orientation (or vice versa), re-check the oil level against the sight glass and adjust the fill quantity. Apply yellow grease to the motor flange input bore and keyway before installing the motor to prevent corrosion bonding. First oil change at 100 hours, then 2,500 hours or annually.

1. What is the difference between WDA and WDS? +
Both use the same universal housing with IEC motor flange. WDA: motor flange positioned below the worm axis (A-type). WDS: motor flange positioned above (S-type). Both can be reoriented on site.
