QY Series Inclined-Output Worm Gear Reducer

The QY Series is a single-stage worm gear reducer with an inclined output shaft, designed for drives where the load axis runs at an angle between horizontal and vertical. 7 sizes (50-135 mm), ratios 5:1-60:1, torque up to 690 N·m. Eliminates the universal joint needed with standard flat-output reducers on tilted conveyors and mixer drums. Self-locking above 30:1. Replaces Bonfiglioli VF-QY series and Motovario H/I series inclined worm reducers with matching footprint and shaft angles.

Description

QY Series Inclined-Output Worm Gear Reducer

The QY Series is a single-stage worm gear reducer with an inclined output shaft that exits the housing at an angle between horizontal and vertical. This geometry serves applications where the driven shaft runs on a slope — inclined conveyor head pulleys, tilted rotary screens, angled mixer drums — and a standard horizontal or vertical output would require an extra universal joint or bevel coupling to bridge the angle. Seven frame sizes from WP50 to WP135, ratios from 5:1 to 60:1, and output torques up to 690 N·m make the QY a compact, coupling-free solution for inclined power transmission. The foot-mounted, belt- or coupling-driven input keeps motor positioning flexible, and the cast-iron WP housing provides the same rugged construction found across the entire range.

Applications for Inclined Drives

Inclined Conveyors and Screens

Gravel-washing screens, inclined belt feeders, and trommel screens in mining and recycling plants operate at fixed angles between 15° and 45°. The QY output aligns directly with the driven shaft at these angles, eliminating the universal joint that a horizontal-output reducer would need. This removes a wear item and a potential vibration source. Frame sizes WP80–WP135 cover the torque range most inclined conveyor and screen drives require.

Tilted Mixer Drums

Concrete mixers, fertiliser blenders, and pharmaceutical drum coaters tilt their mixing vessel at a fixed angle to gravity. The QY’s inclined output shaft couples directly to the drum trunnion shaft, and the self-locking worm gearbox property at 30:1 and above holds the drum stationary during loading and discharge. Equipment builders working with Eirich and Liebherr mixer platforms use the QY in the WP70–WP120 range for this application.

Specifications

Data applies at 1,500 r/min input. The QY uses the same WP-platform gear geometry, bearings, and alloys as all single-stage models in the speed reducer gearbox range. contact us for frame-specific dimensional drawings and output-angle confirmation.

Build Quality

The QY housing is a one-piece grey cast-iron casting with foot pads machined flat for bolting to inclined machine frames or support brackets. The output bore exits through a machined face angled relative to the worm centreline. Internally, the unit shares every component with the standard WP range: case-hardened 20CrMnTi worm shaft, ZCuSn10Pb1 tin-bronze worm wheel, tapered roller bearings, and double-lipped NBR shaft seals. The input shaft protrudes horizontally for belt, chain, or coupling drive.

Components and Spare Parts

Every wear component inside this reducer is available as an individual spare part from our Condell Park, NSW warehouse, enabling targeted replacement rather than full-unit swap. QY internals are shared with the full WP single-stage range. One parts inventory covers every variant.

Customer Reviews

★★★★★

The QY inclined output was the only way to fit a reducer into our bottle-rinser drive space. Motor stays horizontal, output drops at 45 degrees into the rinser drum. Clean install, no custom brackets needed.

★★★★☆

We use the QY on grain-cleaner rotary screens. The angled output matches the screen tilt perfectly and eliminates the universal joint we used with our old flat-output gearbox.

Maintenance

Use ISO VG 220–320 EP gear oil. Verify the oil level covers the worm wheel fully in the installed inclined position. First change at 100 hours, then every 2,500 hours or annually. Shell Omala S2 G 220 and Mobil DTE Oil BB are recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What angle does the QY output shaft run at? +
The QY output shaft exits at an inclined angle (typically 45°) relative to the input axis, bridging the gap between a standard horizontal output and a fully vertical one.
2. Does the QY self-lock? +
Yes, at ratios of 30:1 and above, consistent with all WP-platform worm reducers.
3. What frame sizes are available? +
Seven sizes from WP50 to WP135 cover the light-to-medium-duty range most inclined-drive applications require.
4. Can I use a motor flange with the QY? +
The standard QY uses a bare input shaft. Contact our engineering team for motor-flange adapter options.
5. Are QY worm wheels interchangeable with other WP models? +
Yes. The worm wheel for each frame size is identical across all WP single-stage variants, so the same spare part covers the QY, DA, KA, W, and every other single-stage model.
